My Natural Journey

Recently I have gone natural with my hair and I am constantly searching for product to use in my hair that won’t break my wallet and have positive results on my hair. I have found that sometimes the best products are actually very simple and found in your local grocery store. I am learning first-hand that natural oils are amazing for hair. They work wonders on natural hair. I’ve been experimenting using natural oils to make my hair softer, shinier, and even stronger. Natural oils are great for relaxed hair too. Basically hair, especially ethnic hair, needs oil. Here are a few natural oils for natural or relaxed hair that’s not just for cooking;

Avocado Oil
Avocado oil is particularly great for natural and relaxed hair. It’s loaded with nutrients, amino acids, essential fatty acids, as well as vitamins A, B, D, and E.  And it’s excellent for moisturizing, deep conditioning, improving hair strength, strengthening hair, and boosting shine.

Castor Oil
Castor oil thickens hair, promotes hair growth, prevents thinning, moisturizes, helps reduce split ends, helps to tame frizz, and prevents scalp infections.

Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is great for preventing dandruff, promoting hair growth, moisturizing, strengthening hair, thickening hair, and preventing damage.

Olive Oil (Extra Virgin Olive Oil)
I LOVE using olive oil. And olive oil, which is also referred to as the “godmother of hair oil,” is great for moisturizing, deep conditioning,  improving hair strength,  eliminating dandruff, and also has powerful antioxidants that can help fight hair loss.

Rosemary Oil
Rosemary oil is great for stimulating hair follicles for hair growth, preventing hair loss and greying, preventing dandruff, strengthening hair, and boosting shine.

Safflower Oil
Safflower oil protects hair, nourishes hair follicles, moisturizes, and stimulates blood circulation to promote hair growth and thickness. And it is extremely beneficial for natural as well as dry chemically treated hair.

Sweet Almond Oil
Sweet almond oil works great as a “sealant.” This means that it “locks-in” moisture. Sweet almond oil also nourishes hair, smoothes hair cuticles to control shedding, promotes hair growth and thickness, prevents hair loss, and boosts shine.

In addition to natural oils I have tried several product lines for natural hair; Dudley Products Inc.- idiversify , Design Essentials - Natural and Miss Jessie’s Baby Butter Crème. They’re all great products, some a little pricey but overall, they all gave me great results. If you are like me you will see there is a plethora of natural hair product lines out there; it’s all trial & error and how much money you have to invest in hair products. It is also important to consider the look you are trying to achieve, that has a lot to do with the products you use as well.
Personally I am still experimenting with products to see what works best for me and my hair. I will update you as my natural journey continues…….

If you are natural and would like to share your hair product tips email me at and I will try it out and post it in an upcoming blog post.
